Your crash might fall under workers' compensation ... or not

Your boss decided to send you to a special conference on the company's dime. You were excited about it because you only needed to drive a few hours before you'd be at the conference and among people who are interested in the same things that you are. You want to learn more about your job and the career that you've put so much time into.

You couldn't have expected that you'd be involved in a collision on the way to that conference or that it would have life-altering consequences for you. You suffered significant injuries to your lower spine, and it may be months or years before you regain the strength and mobility that you've lost.

If you're hurt while you're driving for work, consider looking into workers' compensation

If you're hurt while driving to a conference, you may be covered by workers' compensation. For example, if you're required to attend the conference and are paid mileage, then workers' compensation may cover any injuries you suffer while technically "on the clock."

On the other hand, if you're not being paid to attend or aren't paid mileage for your travel, then you might not be "working" during the accident and may find that workers' compensation won't cover you. If that happens, you can still seek compensation by filing a personal injury lawsuit or claim against the other driver (so long as they were responsible for the collision).

Our website has more about motor vehicle accidents, work accidents and how to know when you should file for workers' compensation or look at other methods to recover compensation.
