Tutor Time bus crash with SUV results in only minor injuries

A Tutor Time bus carrying seven children was involved in a crash with an SUV in Cottage Grove on the morning of Jan. 16. Although the bus overturned, only two people (a child and the bus driver) suffered injuries. They were transported to a nearby hospital, but their injuries were reported to be minor. First responders checked all of the other children for injuries.

The crash occurred shortly before 7:30 a.m., not far from Crestview Elementary School. The children were being transported from the day care facility to their schools.

In a statement, the owner of Tutor Time thanked first responders as well as employees at Crestview and another elementary school for their assistance after the crash. The statement said that the uninjured children were "transported to classes at their elementary schools" and that the children's families were notified of the crash.

Photos show the Tutor Time bus overturned in an intersection next to an SUV with a badly damaged front end. The driver of the SUV, who was the vehicle's only occupant, was not injured.

Police are still investigating the crash. It has not been reported precisely what happened or which driver appears to be at fault. Neither driver has yet been cited in the crash.

When parents entrust their children to bus drivers, they expect them to be safe. Unfortunately, not all school bus drivers operate their vehicles safely. Even when they do, they're still at the mercy of other drivers on the road who may be negligent, reckless or impaired.

If your child is injured in a bus crash, it's essential to find out what happened and to work to hold the at-fault driver and any other responsible entities or individuals accountable. Regardless of any traffic citations or criminal charges, you may be able to take civil legal action to seek compensation for expenses and other damages.
