Will you ignore these signs of drowsy driving?

It doesn't matter if you've been behind the wheel for a few minutes or several hours, it's possible you could become tired. Since drowsy driving is so dangerous, it's critical to avoid this at all costs.

The biggest mistake you can make is ignoring the signs of drowsy driving. If you listen to these, you'll know when to pull over to get rest. This will slow you down, but it will also keep you safe.

Here are seven signs of drowsy driving that you should never ignore:

  • Difficulty focusing, such as the inability to keep your eyes on the road ahead
  • Daydreaming
  • Repeated yawning and rubbing of your eyes
  • Trouble keeping your head level and eyes ahead
  • Drifting out of your lane, often into another lane or the shoulder of the road
  • Feelings of anger and irritability, often toward other drivers
  • Inability to remember what you have seen and experienced over the past few miles

Some people attempt to push through these symptoms of drowsiness, assuming they're able to reach their destination without trouble. If you get into this habit, there's a much greater chance you'll cause an accident.

Even if you're driving alert, it doesn't necessarily mean that all other drivers are doing the same. There could be someone around you, such as a truck driver, who is entirely too tired to be driving.

If a drowsy driver hits your vehicle, move to safety and call for help. You'll want the responding officer to file a police report. And of course, you need to receive medical attention. From there, you can move onto filing an insurance claim and protecting your legal rights.
